Masks Update

From Monday 7 March, masks will no longer be mandatory for staff and students in primary schools and early childhood settings. With this mandate lifted, we still encourage each family member to make their own choice as to whether they would feel more comfortable with their child wearing a mask. We will still have a small supply of masks to use when necessary. If your child displays any cold like symptoms, they are to stay home and only return to school if they are symptom free.

Yr 2 Leadership Roles

Last week in Note Day we launched the Year 2 Leadership initiative. As promised, please find detailed information from our Year 2 students about the Big Buddies role.

Yr 2 Leaders are excited to begin the special roles next week. One of these jobs is ‘Big Buddies’. We will be helping other students in the playground, playing games with them and teaching them how to use the equipment or join Friendship Time and Library Lunch.

Kindergarten Classroom visits and Home Reading Workshops

We are very excited to welcome our 2022 Kindergarten families into our classrooms for a quick classroom tour conducted by your child, followed by a home reading workshop. Our Kindergarten team will be conducting the workshops and are very excited to share strategies with you as well as answer any questions you may have about early reading skills.

Ensuring COVID safe measures are adhered to, please note that only one parent is permitted to attend and toddlers unfortunately will not be able to attend either. We are hoping this provides you with enough time to plan for alternative arrangements for smaller siblings. Please email your classroom teacher directly if you will be attending.

Clean Up Australia Day

Written by Lauren Rolfe, Year 6 Environmental Captain

The 6thof March is Clean up Australia Day. Redlands will be involved in this event at Balmoral from 12pm – 2pm. Year 6  volunteers will be there to help organise Junior, Prep and Redlands House students with this. Families are encouraged to come along and get involved. Feel free to bring lunch or some snacks along as well. If you can’t make it, the Junior Campus will also be participating in Clean Up Australia Day at school the following week.

Cutlery Library

We would also like to create a Cutlery Library for our Junior Campus canteen. Currently biodegradable cutlery is used in our canteen. We aim to improve this further by creating a reusable cutlery library. Cutlery can be borrowed from the Cutlery Library and returned to the canteen to be reused the next day.

So, what are we asking you for? Whether it’s forks or spoons, we would like any spare cutlery to be donated to our Junior Campus Cutlery Library. Please send any donations to our Prep Reception.

Term 2 Prep After-School Sport Registration

The Term 2 Expression of Interest for Prep After-School Sport form will be released on Monday 14 February at 1.00pm..

The EOI Form will be released via email (to pre-empt any technical issues with Pulse) and on the Prep Sport Pulse page. Registration for all sports will take place in this EOI Form (one form for all sports). Registrations from Term 1 DO NOT roll over and you must complete the Term 2 EOI Form for all Term 2 Sports.

Each Sport has limited spaces available for each year group. This is to ensure a quality experience is offered to students with a low student-coach ratio. It is anticipated that all sports will fill very quickly. The purpose of the programs is to develop sport and physical literacy skills, it is not a baby-sitting activity therefore behaviour will need to meet the expectations of the coaches and of the Redlands behaviour policy. Please note that if any student is sent home twice for poor or disruptive behaviour, they will not be allowed to participate for the remainder of the term program. As such, our providers expect that students will be interested and enthusiastic about participating. Please discuss these programs with your child and the expectations that will be asked of them as after-School Sport may not suit all students.

Registration is not confirmed until you receive a confirmation email from the Prep Sport Administrator. Families will be informed either way regarding the result of their EOI Form.

The following sports will be available in Term 2:

Monday

Friday

  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Gymnastics (new provider – Aussie Gems)

  • When: Tuesday 8 March
  • Where: Junior Campus Oval
  • What to wear: PE uniform for the whole day
  • What to bring: Normal crunch and sip, recess, lunch.
  • Timing: Normal school day drop offs and pick-ups.  Students will be collected from their classroom, taken to the oval for their event, and then return to their classroom for their regular learning activities.

Fun Run Creative Challenge

We’ve designed some posters to give you encouragement on the way. You would have seen some in assembly with messages like: Try your best!  Keep on going!  Have Fun!

But we need more!  We’re going to put them all over the school!

Over the next week if you’d like to make a poster it will help you and your friends get a boost of energy as you run past. We will also give out bonus house points for anyone who makes a poster.

If you’d like to make one you can draw one, paint one, do it on the computer or if you’d like to colour in your house banner, you can find one on the portal.  Once you have completed it, you can give it to your teacher by next Monday.
