Culture College NSW Cultural Immersion Exeperience – Year 10 and 11

19 – 25 April

We are delighted to offer NSW-based cultural immersion program with our partners at Culture College. This replaces the planned Homeland trip to Northern Territory, and means we are able to offer this experience to more students in Years 10 and 11.

Based on Dharug Country near Wiseman’s Ferry, and with the support and involvement of Dharug and Yuin elders and community members, this alternate program will offer similar authentic learning experiences planned for Arnhem Land yet on local country with a local context.

These include visiting important Indigenous sites, learning about kinship, connecting to country, dreaming stories, men’s and women’s business and other cultural activities.

The program represents a unique opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in local Aboriginal culture that few people in NSW will experience. It offers not only benefit to our students and community, but is a continuing source of employment for Indigenous people in uncertain times.

The dates for this program are from Tuesday 19 April to Monday 25 April inclusive. The total cost of the program is $2,965.

If you wish to take advantage of this unique opportunity, please contact Rachael Riley, rriley@redlands.nsw.edu.au, for a Booking Form and further details.

Yr 10 Uniform Reminders

As students begin to further settle into the new school year, a few key items are needing clarification and reinforcement across the cohort:

  • Necklaces are needing to be left at home
  • Earrings are limited to one stud or sleeper in each ear in the lowest hole
  • Shirts are to be tucked in throughout the day outside of Recess and Lunch
  • Hair is to be kept neatly away from the face
  • Cell phones are to be turned off and locked away throughout the school day

Students are receiving demerits for the uniform infractions. Once a student receives two demerits, the student will automatically earn a Friday 1 hour detention. Thank you for your support from home in encouraging students to represent themselves appropriately at school.

Yr 10 into Yr 11 Subject Selection Process

Students have now completed their Careers Profiling meetings and several questions are arising in regards to subject selection for senior studies. The process will commence Term 2 and further information will be shared with students and parents as we get closer to the end of term. We encourage students to continue discussing options at home, to touch base with their Tutors about any queries and to keep taking advantage of any additional presentations or information sessions offered through the Redlands University and Career’s Advisors.

Clean Up Australia Day Sunday 6 March

On Sunday 6 March, it is Clean Up Australia Day! Students are meeting the Environmental Captains at Balmoral Rotunda at 11:50am and cleaning up until 2.00pm. All students are encouraged to come along to help this great cause, clean up one of our local beaches and clock up some service hours while having a good time. There are also house points this year contributing toward the end of year shield. Hope to see everyone there!

A ‘job well done’ Yr 10…

Fantastic effort in completing the first Yr 10 assessment and utilising the Study Centre at maximum capacity in the week leading up to the Term 1 Mathematics Assessment. Students are now preparing for English and PDHPE Assessments in Wk 2.

Congratulations to Isaac Brooks for competing in the NSW Junior Championships this past weekend.

Well done and thank you for demonstrating who you are when others are not looking, Johnny Wang, for helping an elderly citizen with shopping and crossing the road this week in the rain.

Best of luck to Hannah Garde, Jasmine Black and Bianca Goggin for preparing to compete in the NSWCIS Cup for Football next Tuesday 8 March.

We are wishing Daisy Thomas well and remain inspired by her resilience as she recovers from an injured wrist and prepares to continue competing for Snow Australia in the Europa Cup and Junior World Championships in Switzerland.
