Year 9

Yr 9 Return to On-Campus Learning and Term 4 Assessments – Week 4

Students were provided further information and an opportunity for clarification and questions this week during the Yr 9 Year Meeting.  A highlight of common student concerns is included below:

  • Students are expected to return in Summer Uniform with neat and tidy hair.
  • Students may wear their Sport Uniform to school on days when students have PDHPE or Dance.
  • Teachers will be providing opportunities for revision and questions during lessons on Monday and Tuesday to support students in preparation for the Term 4 Assessments
  • A guide for Online Assessment Preparation has been shared with students through iLearn Pastoral Page Announcements and will be further discussed during Tutor on Tuesday.  It is included below for your reference.
  • Yr 9 will be using the Fahl Garden during Recess and Lunch
  • All students should have Flexischools set up for purchasing Canteen items

Parents will continue to be provided with the most up-to-date information through Note Day and communication sent from Mrs Van de Peer directly regarding the return to campus in the Secondary School.

The timetable for the Yr 9 Term 4 Assessments is linked in Redlands Pulse for parents and in iLearn Pastoral Page for students.

Pastoral Care – Preparation for Return to Campus and advice from Dr Judith Locke

Students have had time this week in Pastoral Care to plan for their return to campus and consider their return as two-fold, physical and mental preparation. Physical preparation may include: uniform, books, bag, transport, mask, pencil case and Flexischools. While mental preparation includes our mindset, focus, attitude and coping strategies. In Yr 8, this cohort ended the year with a focus on having a positive mindset. This year, we focus on how we cope when our positive mindset is challenged. As challenges will always arise in various ways and places, what do we have in place to problem solve, cope and move forward?

Redlands has invited Dr Judith Locke to speak at school in the past and in the podcast linked below she shares her advice on how best to support young people as they return to school after this “bumpy ride of COVID.” Use this link to read and listen further to her podcast, provided by Life Education. https://www.lifeeducation.org.au/parents/help-your-child-succeed-at-school-with-dr-judith-locke

Monday will not only be a first day back for all Yr 9 but a first day on campus for five of our new and returning students in the Yr 9 Cohort who joined Redlands in Term 3 and Term 4.  We look forward to meeting the following students face to face and supporting them in navigating campus and life at Redlands: Zoe Waterfield, Kiana Walsh-Buckley, Ella Smith, Mia St Clair, Hannah Brown.

All Yr 9 new students and buddies of new students will be meeting with Year Advisors and Tutors at 8am at the Gerard Street entrance to the campus.

How Well Do you Know Your Tutor Group?

Last week, students chose a fun fact to share with their Tutor Groups that they thought nobody would know! Thank you to Nico Laliberte, Tara Gold and Jack Keogh for leading your Tutor Groups through the Tutor activity this week and having some fun discovering random facts about one another along the way.  This activity will be running in other Tutor Groups over the next few weeks.

These various opportunities for leadership, social connection and team building remain a vitally important part of our Pastoral Program and we will continue to provide these opportunities through Tutor Group as we return to On-Campus learning.

Sport

The Sport Department continues to organise and offer several exciting opportunities for our students to engage in fitness and their own specific Sport while learning remotely.  Students should check the Sport iLearn page weekly for further information regarding Sport sessions.
