Year 11
Remote Learning lessons
Online learning does not mean exciting explosive Science stops! Yr 11 IB Chemistry were introduced to the topic of Kinetics through an exciting demonstration performed over Zoom by our Laboratory Manager, Ms Bubble. Initially Ms Bubble put some flour in a little basin and tried to burn it using the Bunsen burner but it only smoked a little, turned partly black and smelt like burnt toast (so we were told). The students were challenged to come up with a way to make the flour burn better/faster. Someone suggested spreading out the flour so the fire could reach all the flour particles and this is the result you see. Ms Bubble placed the flour in a funnel and using a long hose attached to the bottom and a Bunsen burner attached to a metre ruler, blew the flour up into the air and lit it, producing a large fire ball! Demonstrating the effect of increasing surface area on the rate of a reaction. Just letting you know all safety precautions were in action!
Messages of Motivation by our Yr 12 Leaders
Yr 12 in particular, fully understand that motivation may be fluctuating at this difficult time and so they got together, remotely, to produce the video ‘Messages of Motivation’ , which will be viewed by our Yr 11 students this week. It is definitely worth the watch!
