Year 10
Have a safe, relaxing and well deserved break!
I would like to wish all Yr 10 parents and students a safe, relaxing and well deserved break. This term has been jam-packed with Subject Selection, Half Yearly Examinations, House Spirit Day and the Secondary School Athletics Carnival – just to name a few events. It has been wonderful to see the growth and maturity of Yr 10 over the last term and both Ms El Martin and I can’t wait to see further growth of our Yr 10 students in Semester 2. I am sure Term 3 will be an exciting term with many of our Yr 10 students attending Winter School at our High Country Campus in Jindabyne. Both El and I will be attending Winter School at some point throughout the term to check in with our Yr 10 students.
Thank you for all your ongoing support this term.
Key Dates
Start of Term 3: Tuesday 13 July
Student Achievements
Well done to Maddie Barwise (44th), Sebastien Griffith (41st), Keian Murphy (64th), and Lily Swift (50th) who competed at the NSW CIS XC Carnival at Sydney Motorpark at Eastern Creek. The conditions on the day were freezing, wet and slippery which made each of our students runs that much more liberating when they crossed the finish line. Well done Maddie, Sebastien, Keian and Lily.
Congratulations to Will Pearson and Josh Hicks who represented Redlands at the CIS Rugby Invitational last week. This week they have the CIS Rugby Championships. Best of luck boys!
Leading Wellbeing: A student perspective reflection
On Friday 11 June, Daniel Close, Jess Marshall, and I were chosen from the Yr 10 cohort, as part of the Term 2 IGNITE team, to take part in the Leading Wellbeing: A student perspective which was held by both Knox Grammar and Ravenswood School and learn about wellbeing and how to be a good leader in the community and school.
This experience was really eye opening in the ways that a good leader’s first skill that they should be good at is being a listener which is a theory introduced to us by Eddie Jaku, a 101 year old who survived the Holocaust.
Throughout the day we enjoyed ourselves listening to speakers like Eddie Jaku, Mr James (Knox Headmaster), Mrs Johnstone (Ravenswood Principal). We also took part in two workshops throughout the day where we would learn and talk about character strengths and values and also achieving the best version of you.
I really enjoyed this event and would recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity to take part in the conference in 2022.

Subject Selection
It was pleasing to see our Yr 10 students register their subject choices for their senior years of study this week. From the feedback given by students regarding Subject Selection Interviews with key members of staff, the interviews were positive and cemented the student’s subject selection choice, particularly those students who were unsure whether to select HSC or IB. If you have any further questions regarding HSC please email Mr David Randall and for any IB inquiries, please email Mr Darren Taylor.
ICAS Science
The 2021 International Competition and Assessment for Schools (ICAS) in Science will take place on Monday 23 August in school. This competition is undertaken by over 400,000 students across Australia and the region and is a rigorous test of scientific thinking. Participation in the competition provides our students with excellent examination practice and an opportunity to see how they fare in competition with students of their own age from across the country. Students who are interested in Science can use the test to assess areas of strength and weakness. Success at the test is a way of demonstrating aptitude when applying for Science related opportunities in and out of school.
Entry for students in Yrs 7-10 is voluntary. Please complete the form here Registration for ICAS before Monday 26 July if you would like them to take part. (Please note earlier registration date). A fee of $16 will be charged to your account if you wish your child to participate. More information about ICAS can be found here.
