JUNIOR SPORT Redlands Pulse
Balmoral Swim
Congratulations to our Junior School Students who took part in the Balmoral Swim, Redlands as a school ended up winning the Charity Cup which is for the school who raised the most money per swimmer. We acknowledged these girls at our assembly during the week.
Round 2 Winter Representative Sport
We got underway in beautiful conditions last Saturday and was great to see students have settled into the routine of representative sport. One of my Yr 6 students told me that she likes the saying ‘failing to prepare is preparing to fail’ which is why she leaves everything out the night before her football match so in case she is late she has one less thing to worry about if there is a quick exit on match day. The same can be said for all sports, knowing where the venue is, taking into consideration the volume of traffic with some commentators now comparing Saturday morning sport traffic to peak hour traffic.
Our Rugby teams travelled to Kings for their games last week with success. In Football it was a mixed bag of results with similar results in netball and hockey. From an administration point of view all coaches are asked to submit a ‘notable mention’ this week for a student that stood out in the area of performance, sportsmanship or attitude. These students were acknowledged at this week’s assembly but can be viewed below. In regards to the results, as indicated in the draw due to Redlands low number of teams in some sports we don’t match up with other schools graded teams. This, along with the previous season’s results, determine who we play and what team we play. When these situations arise, it was great to see Football and Netball adjusting their formations, style of play etc to accommodate their lower graded opposition to prevent blow outs to scores. Of course, there will always be matches that no matter what practices you put in place, scores will be one sided. Credit to the students in these teams who have done this as I am aware from last year Redland certainly appreciated it when the shoe was on the other foot.

IPSHA Gymnastics
Thank you to all those families who have completed the expression of interest for IPSHA Gymnastics so far. For those who have competent gymnastics in their families please see the reminder below;
- We are now inviting an expression of interest for those children who are involved in Gymnastics either internally at Redlands or externally at club to potentially represent Redlands at the IPSHA Gymnastics Carnival later this year.
- The IPSHA gymnastics carnival is not a progression carnival and is an exhibition event for experienced gymnasts.
- The Redlands Sport Department will be taking responsibility for the selection of individuals and teams leading up to and on the day. The format of team selection will be depended upon the number of responses and may not be limited to previous results and or coaches recommendations.
- There may also be an internal Redlands Gymnastics Gala day held on or off site as an option to assist selections if the need arises.
What events can I compete in at IPSHA Gymnastics Carnival?
- WAG Women’s Artistic Gymnastics – floor, beam, uneven bars, vault
- WAG Women’s Rhythmic Gymnastics – ball, hoop, ribbon, clubs, rope, free (no apparatus)
- MAG Men’s Artistic Gymnastics – rings, floor, vault, parallel bars, pommel, high bar
2021 IPSHA Gymnastics Carnival
Thursday 28th October
8-2.30pm
Sydney Gymnastics Centre Rooty Hill RSL
Please note: due to the demands of the sport, it is crucial that they are currently training to ensure they have the strength, flexibility, and the skills in order to learn the Gymnastics routines for competition.
IPSHA also requires that gymnasts must be turning 8 years or older in 2021 to be eligible for the competition. Please register your interest here.
