Year 12
It has been a busy start to Week 3, with numerous opportunities for our Yr 12 students. On Tuesday morning a panel of Yr 12 students (HSC and IB) spoke with our Yr 10 students in a Q&A style session. The aim of this session was for Yr 10 students to ask pertinent questions regarding each program of study. It was an opportunity for Yr 10 to gain a peer perspective from students immersed in the HSC and IB. This proved a valuable experience for both the panel students and the student audience. The Yr 12 students who gave of their time were described as authentic, friendly and informed.
On Wednesday morning Dr Regis together with Mr Randall addressed our HSC cohort. Dr Regis presented an English specific workshop, focused on both the Advanced and Standard courses. Dr Regis gave students strategies, hints and tips to ensure best outcomes for our students when approaching examination papers. She was able to advise in specific areas and detail prescriptively what NESA examiners are looking for.
Student Achievements
It is with excitement and anticipation that I share some wonderful news of George Murphy (Yr 12). George is an elite snow sports athlete who has given years of commitment to Moguls training and competition. Last week he was in Melbourne for the Beijing 2022 Olympics Team Processing Day and has been identified as a potential Winter Olympic Team Member. This is not a guarantee that he will be placed on the team to Beijing in 2022 but if he is selected later in the year, he will be ready to go. The event was a big day of media photos, uniform sizing, flu vaccinations, data validation, Q&A sessions from previous Winter Olympians and rule briefings. George was very excited to attend this day and have the chance to rub shoulders with his fellow athletes from other winter sports, and his first chance to don an Olympic uniform. We are delighted for George and wish him every success as his Olympic journey continues.
Yola Reinecke is currently participating in the U20 National Basketball Championship in Mackay (Queensland), representing NSW. This is wonderful news and we are incredibly proud of Yola.
Prefect Afternoon Teas
A number of schools on the North Shore have sent invitations to Prefect Afternoon Teas. These are peer run events and a wonderful opportunity for our Student Leaders to share ideas with students from other schools. We are regularly advertising these opportunities to the Year Group but should your son or daughter wish to attend an afternoon tea, please encourage them to email Dr Regis and me.
