Debating

Heats for the two inter-school competitions that run in Semester 1, the Independent Schools Debating Association (ISDA) and Friday Evening Debating (FED), were completed on Zoom in the first weeks of Term 2.

With the heats over, it is a great opportunity to say a massive congratulations to all those who have participated in both these competitions. All of our sixteen teams have at least one win, with six of our teams having won more than half of their debates.

Congratulations to the following ISDA teams who have progressed to the final rounds: Primary B, Year 9, Year 10 and Senior B. Next week we will find out which FED teams have progressed to the quarter finals. We are delighted to see the return of face-to-face Debating as of next week.

In other news, the Year 9 Inter-house Debating Competition in the first week of Term 2 saw Dumolo and McDouall make it the final. Congratulations go to Johan Cheah, Annie Zhang, Conor Petersen and Anneka Steele from Dumolo who narrowly won, taking the affirmative position, ‘That teachers’ salaries should be linked to their performance.’ Sofia Rolon, also in Dumolo, also set a great standard as the chairperson. Other year groups will have their competitions in Semester 2.

Please contact Mrs Beggs, Debating Coordinator at r.beggs@redlands.nsw.edu.au or Ela Yohannan, Debating Captain at e.yohannan@redlands.nsw.ed.au if you are not already a Debater but would like to become involved. All are welcome.
