From the Principal

Congratulations to Michael Jones OAM

We congratulate Redlands Board Director, Mr Michael Jones, who was recognised last Monday in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List with the announcement that he has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal in the General Division for service to education.

Michael has been a Director on the Redlands Board since late 1985, and served as Board Chairman from 2001 to 2016. His extraordinary generosity of time donated to Redlands, while operating a private architectural business, has been a wonderful asset for the School, which educated his three sons. His knowledge of the history of the School is expansive; he was one of those Redlands parents and friends who were instrumental in the acquisition of the High Country Campus property near Jindabyne, and of the development of a suite of facilities which has long been a home away from home to students attending Redlands Winter School, and which acts as a base for key parts of the Redlands Outdoor Education program. His work on the Board’s Physical Resources Group, which he also chaired for a number of years, has assisted many other property developments and master planning activities for the two main campuses. He has served at various times on a number of other Redlands Board committees.

Michael has previously also served as Chair of the Tara Anglican School Board, and he continues as Chair of Snowy Mountains Grammar School Board, a school which was generously assisted by Redlands through the first 12 years following its foundation. At a higher level still Michael is currently the Deputy Chair of the NSW Association of Independent Schools and sits on the Board of ISCA, the Independent Schools Council of Australia, the national body which represents the independent schools throughout Australia at the Federal level. His knowledge of independent education at both State and National levels is a great asset to the schools with which he has been and continues to be associated. The converse is also true, whereby his experience of independent schools themselves allows him to bring insights and value to State and National bodies for independent schools.

It would be hard to find a worthier recipient of an Australian award for generous and selfless service to independent schools than Michael Jones and we are delighted for him and extend to him our thanks and very best wishes.
