Vision Screening
The StEPS program is a free, population based vision screening program and is designed to identify childhood vision problems which cannot be detected by observation, behaviour, family history or vision surveillance. The StEPS program usually actively identifies and targets all 4 year old children in NSW to offer them a free visual acuity screen using a validated test. Sadly, this testing cannot be conducted in the Preschool this year. If you would like to have your child’s eyes tested by call StEPS Vision Screening 9462 9550 for an appointment and clinic dates.
Kaleidoscope Science
The Seniors and Transition Gold had a wonderful morning exploring and investigating a range of activities and experiments provided by Mitch from Kaleidoscope Science. The children really enjoyed this hands-on learning experience, they were engaged and excited. The children investigated magnets, telescopes, kaleidoscopes, periscopes, xylophones, batteries and circuits, as well as gravity, sound and vibrations. The tea bag rocket and the Hoberman sphere were very popular, as was the stomp rocket. Science, directly and indirectly, influences all aspects of everyday life. From the food we eat to the way we get around, science is everywhere. The children were encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, observe, test, and then communicate their findings, they are developing critical science skills. I am sure they will be talking about it for weeks to come.
RPFA Community Trivia Night
It is wonderful to see our Redlands Parents and Friends Association set up an inaugural socially distant community event for our Redlands with a Kahoot Trivia afternoon lined up. Zoom in to see friends and families in House colours and see who can answer the most multiple choice questions the quickest! The quiz, which is being run by a quiz company, has been designed to be suitable for all ages and students can earn House points as well as lots of prizes during the quiz.
